Homecoming

Since my existence, I have known that we celebrate Durga Puja as Maa’s homecoming. Everyone around seems excited, and the preparation starts way ahead of time. What to wear, what Pandals to hop, or where to eat are a few major topics of discussion. But in the whole affair, we forget a major essence of the festival—homecoming. These are the days when the Mother comes home, and with her comes the happiness that the loved ones feel. The streets are lit and filled with joy and laughter.

I was blessed, even though it was for two seasons; I had the share of my homecoming feeling with you. I felt the same eagerness, waiting for you to step back home, even though it was for a day. This year you were not there, because someone’s stubbornness became your reason for sacrifice. I knew that you would not come, but my heart was still awaiting.

So, here I immerse myself with her, with a belief that when she comes back next year, you will come back too. That will be my true homecoming.
